Swimming workout helps you to keep yourself fit and refreshing. It is basically a body exercise that tones your muscles, increases your blood circulation, and enhances your energy. You can also consider Swimming pool workout as an authentic way to increase you body flexibility and strength.

If you want to increase your cardiovascular stamina go for swimming. If you want to be a good swimmer, you should work with water. More you work with water, the better it is. Propel with your hips, shoulders and abs in order to do better.

While you are doing Swimming pool work out, you should have a better understanding about the unique properties of water. Basically, while you are in water, your body has no gravity at all. You loose almost 90% of your body weight and you become buoyant.

So you can easily float on water, in a completely relaxed mood without putting any extra effort at all. As air provides 12 percent to 14 percent less resistance than water, as you move about, you have more weight around you. So you have to keep moving while you are doing Swimming pool work out.

You may not know that swimming laps is a very good exercise in a swimming pool. Try to execute different types of strokes. You may try out with vertical or upright strokes. Trying different types of exercises will keep you balanced while you are doing Swimming pool work out.

There are different types of Swimming pool work out activities. Some typical water workouts are:

water toning

water therapy

jogging

water walking

water aerobics

water flexibility training

water yoga

If you are swimming horizontally, you experience 75% lesser resistance than the amount of resistance you experience in vertical Swimming pool work out. During vertical Swimming pool work out, your resistance increases against your movements.

For elderly people, Swimming pool work out is of great help. It helps you to increase your heath and strength. It also helps you to increase your metabolism and physical activity as well. It also helps you to feel better. If you join a swimming class, it increases your social interaction; you make more friends and develop a community of your choice. This makes you feel sound and fit.

There is no age to join a swimming class. So do not delay. Join an aquatic class and extract all possible fun from it. Who knows, you may again get back your childhood days?

TOTAL BIOCARE SYSTEMS FOR SWIMMING POOLS

GOOD FILTRATION STANDARDS-THE ESSENCE OF GREAT POOL WATER

Contact Pool Maintenance Limited www.pool-maintenance.co.uk

Filtration Media:

The single largest surface area exposed to contamination in a swimming pool is the media within the filter units. Sand has been used for 150 years as a filter medium. Sand is also classed as a grade 2 carcinogen because of the free silica contained. Every cubic metre of sand has a surface area in the region of 3000 square metres and it is an established fact that sand-based media provides a highly suitable substrate for bacteria, with all the potential health hazards that this generates. Sand will become widely colonised by a range of bacterial agents within a few days and cannot be fully cleansed even with chlorination and other standard practises.

Alginates excreted by these bacteria glue the sand grains together and prevent the filters from working efficiently. Colonies of bacteria then combine to produce bio-films. A bio-film creates its own environment with a low pH value, thus becoming a prime source of tri-chloramines production, the prime cause of “pool smell”. The effective operation and maintenance of pool filter units to prevent unacceptable levels of bacteria growth and tri-chloramines production should therefore be a high priority for all pool operators. Sand media should be totally replaced every 5-7 years.

Standard codes of practise:

All commercial and public organisations have a Duty of Care to their staff and the general public and any failure of this duty due to poor working practise can be a costly business as has been shown in several recent cases. Therefore it is essential that your filters are fit for purpose, well maintained and thoroughly inspected by a suitably experienced person at least once a year. Poor management of filters can cause problems within DAYS. Attention should be given to: sand quantity and quality, under-drains and corrosion. Unusual signs like fissures, an uneven bed, “mud-balling”, etc need investigation.

Flocculation/Coagulants are recommended as part of your filtration regime (if you are not using them already) as they bring contaminants out of solution and clump them together into a floc that can be more easily removed by a filter. They are particularly crucial in the filtering of Cryptosporidium and Giradia.

NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES: the case for glass media

Recycled glass media has been shown by independent studies from leading experts in the water filtration field, to be a highly efficient filtration media out performing sand. We, at Pool Maintenance & Servicing, believe that commercial pools should switch to glass media as soon as possible. This change will produce significantly better pool water and pool-hall atmosphere, as well as yielding operational cost savings and a better environment in your pool. Alongside the positive environmental issues of using a recycled product, the greater operating efficiency will significantly assist and contribute towards any carbon footprint reduction schemes or area targets that may be applicable. A study by leading experts Aqua Enviro concluded that;

“In order to reprocess recycled glass to PAS 102 standard approximately 73 kg Co2/tonne of media is produced compared to 2 kg Co2/tonne of silica sand. However, when the application benefit is taken into account, this work has shown that replacing sand with glass as a filtration media delivers savings which may equate to as much as 1,261 kg C02/tonne/annum of media produced, resulting in a substantial net environmental benefit. These C02 savings arise largely from the superior performance of glass and resultant reduced pump run times.”

Independent studies have shown that glass media has the following properties and benefits; Cleaner, lighter weight, and highly angular crushed recycled glass provides an amazing 25% improvement in turbidity removal over silica sand. Glass filtration media generally removes finer particles from water than silica sand of an equivalent grade. Glass filtration media’s weak negative surface charge holds fine particles and positively charged iron and manganese ions that are easily released upon back washing. Crushed glass filtration media is less likely to block or channel than silica sand. Glass filtration media contains no crystalline silica–resulting in better lung protection for employees and a far healthier environment. Glass filtration media grains are amorphous, smooth particles that have a higher attrition strength and do not permanently trap bacteria in cracks. Use of  glass filter media will lower your consumption of chlorine and coagulants. Glass media gives improved performance for pressure or gravity-flow filters. Weighing 20% less than sand, glass filtration media provides more filter volume per kg. Glass filtration media’s lower density requires up to 20% less media to fill your filter vessel. Better permeability–back washes with up to 25% less water, saving down-time and water/sewer charges. Because crushed glass filtration media cleans better, you save energy and operating costs

Finally, we would stress that utilising an effective media product made from recycled glass is a far more environmentally friendly option than continuing with the use of quarried sand and gravel.

In summary, glass media is a more efficient media than sand, therefore in conjunction with a careful water and filtration management programme it can produce cost savings for your pool. Once installed, we suggest that you carefully monitor your pool to produce the most efficient water quality regime. We believe that you will have excellent results and soon find there are savings to make in water, energy and chemical usage

With all these factors in mind we invite you to make the switch from sand to glass, monitor the results and reap the rewards.

Pool Maintenance Ltd now offer filter refurbishment with two types of recycled glass media and can advise you on the general benefits and savings associated with each.

DURAFILTER Glass media:

Specially developed and graded for installation in swimming pool filters, DURAFILTER is made 100% from recycled glass. It is totally safe for use and conforms for British Standards PA102. It is non-toxic and non-abrasive. Should any escape into the pool it would do no more harm than traditional sand. DURAFILTER recycled glass media will last for a minimum of 10 years without need for reloading. It is our belief that correct practice with sand is to reload every 5 years. Used in filters treated with our own high performance coatings we will supply you with a 10 year guarantee effectively doubling the life of your media.

In the past there have been price barriers to the installation of glass media however DURAFILTER recycled glass media is sourced to be completely cost comparable to sand.

DURAFILTER glass media is a more efficient media than sand, therefore with a careful water management programme it can produce cost savings for your pool. Once installed into your filters we suggest that you carefully monitor your pool to produce the most efficient water quality regime. We believe that you will have excellent results and soon find there are savings to make in water, energy and chemical usage

DURAFILTER is a low cost entry into glass media use meaning that for the same price as sand loading a pool operator can gain the benefits of usage of glass media.

The House Team Of Mortgage Intellingence asked:

You’re moving! Join the club of Kids on the Move. Did you know that almost one in five families will move this year? That’s a lot of packing, boxes, new schools, new rooms and new friends.

While moving can be exciting in a way, it can also be pretty stressful - for kids and their parents. Think of the whole thing as a kind of “Moving Survivor” show. You’ll have a ton of stuff to do, but it’ll be kind of fun if you think about it the right way. To start with, here are some tips for your Moving Survivor adventure:

1. There’s good stuff and there’s bad stuff.

Maybe your parents are finally going to let you have a dog. Or maybe you’re going to get a room of your own. Or a pool. Or a new city to explore. There’s almost always something good about moving, if you think hard enough. Take a sheet of paper and draw a line through the middle. Start to write down the good stuff and the bad stuff about moving. Your parents may not have a list on paper, but they have one in their heads. They know there’s good and bad stuff about moving, too. Ask them to write their list, then you can compare notes and talk about it.

2. Make a scrapbook.

It can feel hard to leave behind people and places that you’ve learned to like. It helps to make a scrapbook of the things you’re leaving behind. Take pictures of friends, your old school, your soccer team, your old room, the tree in the back yard… whatever you want to remember when you move away. Get friends to write notes beside their photos, or help you think up ideas for things to put in your scrapbook. Design a cool cover for your scrapbook, and a title — like Our House on Oak Street. If your parents are really busy, take some photos or write down some things that you think they’ll miss, too.

3. Start an address book.

If you don’t already have an address book started, this is the time to get one. You can ask your parents to get the real, alphabetized ones, or you can use a small notebook. Get names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for any of your friends. What’s really fun is if your parents will let you have a goodbye party, because it’s a great time to see everyone and get their addresses. Find out if any of your friends have MSN or some other messaging service. If you’re old enough to use MSN, it’s almost like talking to your friend standing right beside you. Make sure you write down the email addresses PERFECTLY.

4. Get rich; have a yard sale.

If your parents will let you, plan a yard sale to get rid of all the stuff that you and your parents don’t want to take to the new place. Old toys, books, games, your old bike, furniture you don’t want… it’s unbelievable how much stuff is hanging around the house and garage. Your parents might even let you keep the money for anything that you clean up yourself. When you’re getting stuff ready, if something is broken, you can still try to sell it, but you need to put a sign on that says what’s broken. People will sometimes buy a busted VHS player because they know someone who can fix it. You never know. Make posters for your sale and put them up around the neighbourhood to tell people where and when your sale is. If stuff doesn’t sell, you can give it away to a charity, or just put up a big sign that says FREE! at the end of the day for anything that’s left. Some important advice: make sure your parents know what you’re doing and that one of them can help on the day of the sale.

5. Find a club to join at your new place.

If you’re used to taking karate, swim class or playing soccer at your old place, ask your parents to help you find a new club after you move. You’ll still need to figure out which kids would be good friends, but at least you know that you like some of the same things. At your school, they might have an after-school program. That’s another great way to find some new kids to hang out with. Before you know it, you’ll be feeling right at home!

Jesse Miller asked:

If you are into workout, your goal of course is not just to have a great shape and a great tone but also to be able to burn those unnecessary fats in the body. The question remains, how to stop fatty foods from destroying your body? Indeed, it is totally impossible for one who is into serious workout to entirely stop eating fatty foods. The most that one can do is just to lessen the intake of fats. Nevertheless, there are simple ways to prevent the accumulation of too much fat in your system. Here are some of the basic steps that you can follow to keep fatty foods from destroying your workout plan.

1. Exercise in the morning – While it is true that one can freely exercise at a time and place of his choice, it is important to perform a body exercise that would help you stick with your fitness program. Nevertheless, studies suggest that the workouts conducted during the morning are able to use as much fats in the body. This is because the body is more inclined to utilize the carbohydrates before it begins to utilize fats.

2. The duration of the exercise – As mentioned, it is recommended to devote a particular amount your time in the morning for a fat burning exercise, nevertheless, you can allot a particular time also any time of the day for your workout. The important thing though is to be able to stick with your workout schedule. While the time that you have to spend for your workout plan may vary, studies suggest that a short 10 -15 minutes of simple exercise or hard workout can help start to burn fats. However, the workouts that exceed 30 minutes to an hour are considered as the ultimate fat burning workout. This is because usually, the first 20 minutes of your workout is geared to burn carbohydrates and other extra calories. Indeed you can already lose weight in twenty minutes but if you are serious to break those fats, then try to extend your workout to at least an hour.

3. Choose the right place for your fat burning activities – As most have noticed, your fitness activities really depends on your lifestyle. There are people who want to go to the gym while there are those who just want to do their workout programs in their homes. These do not matter though for what you need is just to be in the place where you find it comfortable and convenient to do your workout. Likewise, as mentioned, try to keep the length of your activities to over thirty minutes to make sure that your activities are geared to burn those excess fats.

4. Pick out your fat burning activities - You can start burning fats by simply walking for more than an hour, jogging or running in between. It would be a walking, running and jogging activity for at least hour. For an hour of this activity, the walking alone will help you burn 250 calories while the effect is doubled if you do it more intensely through jogging. This you can also perform this indoor through a treadmill. Then within the week, you may also try out some weight training activities for you to tone your muscles and replace those flabby fatty skins with muscles. Then if you do want more enjoying activities, try to make a variation by getting into a pilates or swimming class over the weekend.

These activities only take one hour of your time every day to get those fats burned.

When Movie Hair Goes Horribly, Horribly Wrong!

Sometimes, a guy can find himself victimized by a barber who either doesn’t have a clue - or has a sick sense of humor instead.

Most of us have suffered through the indignity of the “Haircut from Hell.” The good thing about it is: you wait it out; your hair grows out, and your grooming crisis passes. You, and everyone who had the good taste to point and laugh at you, will forget it ever happened.

Pity, then, the Hollywood Actor who appears in a blockbuster film with his own “Haircut from Hell.” He can never forget about it. Not only has it been captured for all eternity, but audiences will be able to see it magnified a hundred times over on the big screen. It’s like having a pimple the size of Cuba on your forehead.

For example, remember Javier Bardem and his recent Oscar-winning turn in No Country for Old Men. That pageboy haircut on a soulless serial killer? Really? Yes, we admired how he took care of business, but he must have won that Academy Award for actually still being creepy despite looking like a middle-aged Buster Brown.

Let’s talk about a couple of other cinematic killers with throwback hair - Samuel Jackson and John Travolta in another Oscar-winner, Pulp Fiction. It’s a testament to both their talents that they come across as the coolest guys in the room - despite Jackson looking more like the original ’70’s “Shaft” than he did when he made the remake, and Travolta looking like Liv Tyler after swimming class. Again, it’s easy to be professional hit men when your victims are so taken aback by your horrible hairstyles that they’re too stunned to run. The real assassins here are the barbers involved.

Then there’s another fun screen couple whose exploits were a bit on the lighter side - Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber. At least their haircuts were slightly justified by the fact that they were supposed to be stupid. Nevertheless, two hours of Carrey looking like Moe from The Three Stooges and Daniels looking like one of the dogs he’s supposed to be taking care of is a lot to ask.

Finally, there’s one of the all-time modern movie superstars - Tom Cruise, who, admittedly, isn’t as handsome as he used to be. You probably think his star began to fall when he started the new Olympic sport of “couch-jumping” on Oprah’s show. We have a different theory. We think it started with his hairdo in the movie, “Magnolia.”

It’s not one of his more widely-seen movies - and he actually played a supporting part - but for those of you used to the standard Tom Cruise Top Gun haircut, you’ll be startled to see the girly-man hairstyling in this offbeat flick. Frankly, it made us think he was a great candidate to play Lois Lane if they ever make another Superman movie. Cruise might have known what he was doing, however - because, once again, something about having the guts to sport the worst possible hair for a part, convinced the movie Gods to reward the actor with an Oscar nomination.

We’re being a little cruel here - obviously, all these extreme hair styles were purposely created to enhance the specific parts the actors were playing. And in all cases, these superstars were handsomely rewarded for these specific parts with either Oscar recognition or bigger career opportunities. The wrong haircut made the right difference for them.

But you’re not after an Academy Award when you step into the barber shop - you’re after the best possible haircut.

P.S. Cruise recently did it again playing a big Hollywood producer in the Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder. Hope he gets something for that role. It’s work watching just for his scenes.

Annually, Michigan offers hundreds of attractions for its residents and visitors, and every year there is something new to enjoy - from beachtowns overlooking Lake Michigan to the urban vibe in southeast Michigan. 2008 has many milestone events, including the portside city of St. Clair celebrating its 150th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the Ford Model T and General Motors.

Enhanced Places to Stay

The revitalization of the city of Detroit continues with the opening of the 400-room hotel at the Greektown Casino. Slated to open in October 2008, the 30-story hotel will include 10 banquet rooms and two new restaurants. The complex will also feature 100,000 square feet of gaming space and a new 1,100-seat live theater.

Hotel Sterling is a new 11-room boutique hotel offering visitors to downtown Monroe the first lodging facility in decades, and the first ever “world-class” lodging in Monroe. Each guest room features La-Z-Boy furnishings - a tribute to the furniture giant that has been located in Monroe since 1927 (Incidentally, 2009 will mark 100 years since the first La-Z-Boy recliner swept America off its feet).

Detroit’s hotel choices will expand when the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit hotel opens also in October 2008 following a $180 million restoration of what was the largest hotel in the country when it first opened in 1924. The Book Cadillac will feature 455 guest rooms and suites, three restaurants, and meeting space. Visitors can also look forward to the addition of 204 luxury hotel suites as part of the old Pick-Fort-Shelby, which is being redeveloped as the Fort Shelby Double Tree Suites, to be operated by Hilton Hotel Corp. The Detroit Marriot at the Renaissance Center and the Sheraton Detroit Riverside, formerly the Pontchartrain, has renovated rooms to keep up with the competition.

Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is converting its indoor pools into an aquatics play area with a waterslide, waterwalk, and sprayground giving it the excitement of a water park, and will continue to provide lap swimming, aqua aerobics, and swimming classes.

Great Wolf Lodge of Traverse City plans to open its new 9,700-swquare-foot conference center, a Grand Ballroom, and additional meeting space. Families can continue to splash in the indoor waterpark and soon enjoy a miniature golf course and a state-of-the-art interactive fantasy game called MagiQuest. The game allows guests to battle and vanquish computer-generated dragons and goblins through the property.

Wine and Dine

MotorCity Casino will move its Iridescence restaurant to the top of the 17-story hotel that opened in late 2007. Iridescence received the AAA-Four Diamond Award rating and is the recipient of the 2007 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

Grand Traverse Resort and Spa also has a new restaurant on its top floor named Aerie. Downtown Traverse City has introduced two new restaurants as well. Catch Island Grill is a Caribbean-style eatery with an emphasis on fresh and saltwater fish. Red Ginger is an upscale Asian fusion restaurant and sushi bar.

Places to Play

The Detroit Institute of Arts recently reopened following a comprehensive renovation and expansion project that began in 2001. Visitors can now enjoy a new DIA program, Friday Night Live! with live music, art-making workshops, guided tours, and much more. Activities take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and are free with museum admission.

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians have broken ground on a new tribal museum and cultural center in the native community of Peshawbestown. It will include galleries, archives, a museum store, and classrooms. The museum site is on M-22 on the eastern coast of the Leelanau Peninsula, midway between Suttons Bay and Northport.

Gary Gresham asked:

A swimming workout can be a new and refreshing way to get or stay in shape. Swimming is a full body aerobic sport that tones muscles, improves strength and flexibility, increases circulation, controls weight and enhances body contours. Swimming workouts give you a low impact activity that can easily be tailored to match your abilities. A good way to gain cardiovascular stamina is to exercise in a swimming pool. The secret to a good swimming exercise program is to work with the water. To accomplish this, propel yourself through the water by using your abs, hips and shoulders. To understand why water exercise works so well, you need to know about water’s unique properties. In water, your body has almost no gravity. You’re relieved of 90% of your body weight so you become very buoyant. You can float, bob and relax without feeling like you’re putting out any effort. Yet water provides 12 to 14 percent more resistance than air, so as you move through it, it’s like having weights around you. Swimming laps is great exercise in a swimming pool. Try different strokes to vary the muscles you work to keep your workout balanced. Going vertical or upright is another very effective exercise in water. These types of water workouts include water walking, jogging, water aerobics, water toning, water therapy, water yoga and water flexibility training. You can strengthen your muscles with these vertical water workouts because you experience 75% greater resistance than swimming horizontally. This vertical position maximizes the resistance of water against your movements. Water based activities can provide significant benefits for older adults too. In addition to increasing metabolism, physical activity can improve cardiovascular health and increase strength, not to mention the psychological and social benefits as well. Joining an aquatics class or just sharing a swimming workout with a friend can help you feel better about yourself. You can be more socially active, engage in community activities and tend to not lose your independence because you are more physically fit. The bottom line is to choose activities that you enjoy and will stick with. It is never too late to introduce physical activity into your life. Swimming workouts can provide a healthy and enjoyable way to get back the fun you use to have as a child.

Lauren B. Wallace asked:

Many of us can remember when we were younger and we could spend hours upon hours swimming in the pool without feeling an ounce of muscle pain the next day. This is because being submerged in the water has a great way of cushioning our joints and protecting our bones. Aside from helping us beat the heat, swimming is a great form of exercise.

Since water adds twelve times more resistance than air, it helps us build muscle and strength faster. When we swim, we work all of the major muscles groups, including: shoulders, back, abdominal, legs, hips, and gluts. All of these muscles are working twelve times harder than if we were on land. This aids in producing exceptional muscle definition. Many people assume that water exercise is way too strenuous because of all of the added pressure; however, the truth is that swimming is one the most cushioned and safe forms of physical fitness. Water fitness is especially beneficial to those who find other forms of exercise painful. For instance, many people who suffer from arthritis commit themselves to this type of workout because it is a low impact type of exercise. Since people with arthritis suffer from stiff joints, swimming in a pool eliminates the possibility of injury. When on land, the impact of the exercise is much more intense on stiff joints. Nonetheless, if you are still skeptical about the safety of water fitness, perhaps knowing that athletes use water to rehabilitate after an injury may change your mind.

So how can you get started? Well, the easiest way to get started is to either hire a swim coach or join a local gym which offers swimming classes. Ten minutes of swimming is perfect if you are just starting out. From there you should try to build up to thirty minutes. Also remember to warm up before your session and to cool down after your session. Try to schedule your regimen anywhere from three to five times a week in order for it to be effective. Swimming is truly a great way to achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle without all of the muscle aches.
